# Civil Service Surveys Civil service surveys are tools used by governments to gather feedback from public employees about their work environment, job satisfaction, leadership, and organisational performance. These surveys support human resource management, inform policy decisions, and help improve public sector effectiveness. --- ## Entries - [[2026-03-01]]: The [latest edition](https://restate.substack.com/p/the-review-27-february-2026) of the newsletter "The Re:View" by the think tank [[Re.State Think Tank|re-state]] (February 27, 2026) is excellent, particularly in how it critiques the latest results from the British [Civil Service People Survey](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/civil-service-people-survey-2025-results) for omitting "uncomfortable" questions about management and feedback. In response to this lack of transparency, Director of Strategy Joe Hill highlights their own [_Alternative People Survey_](https://re-state.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Alternative-People-Survey-2025-2.pdf) which reveals a starkly different reality: while the government slims down its data, Re:State’s findings show that 79% of civil servants believe poor performance is not managed well within the system. ### Experiences in different countries #### USA - Indiana: The [State Personnel Department](https://www.in.gov/spd/the-employee-experience/) conducts the "Pulse Survey" once a year to give all state employees the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience working for the state. #### Canada - Canada: [Public Service Employee Survey](https://www.canada.ca/en/treasury-board-secretariat/services/innovation/public-service-employee-survey.html) (PSES)
