# Ernesto Talvi
A Senior Fellow at the [[Elcano Royal Institute]]. His professional background includes serving as the Director of the Economic and Social Policy in Latin America Initiative at the [[Brookings Institution]] and as a Visiting Professor at [[Columbia University]]. In Uruguay, he held the positions of Chief Economist at the Central Bank and Director of the _[[Centro de Estudios de la Realidad Económica y Social (CERES)]]_.
In 2018, Talvi entered politics by founding "Ciudadanos", a [[Liberal Movements|liberal movement]] within the [[Colorado Party (UY)]]. He subsequently served as a presidential candidate, an elected Senator, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay before retiring from political life in 2021. He holds a PhD in Economics and an MBA in Finance from the [[University of Chicago]].
