## Notes from 01 May 2025 [[2025-04-30|← Previous note]] ┃ [[2025-05-02|Next note →]] Came across [PublicSolutionsJobs.org](https://www.publicsolutionsjobs.org), a platform created in response to the recent layoffs of public interest technologists in the US federal government. The site functions as a shared job board to help redirect individuals with experience in government innovation to roles in universities, non-profit organizations, and state and local governments. It reminded me of a couple of other people and initiatives also involved in similar efforts: the _[Internet of Public Service Jobs](https://newsletter.digitalbydefault.jobs/)_ newsletter curated by [[Matt Jukes]], and a recent partnership between the [[Tech Talent Project]] and the [[Volcker Alliance]] aimed at supporting federal technologists as they transition out of government. They organized a virtual hiring event today, _[Gov to Gov](https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7323381814641782784/)_, which brought together state and local agencies to help absorb public interest talent. ___ I also learned about the [BRAVE1 Market](https://brave1.gov.ua/en/ministry-of-digital-transformation-and-brave1-launch-defense-technology-marketplace-for-the-military/) through a [post](https://www.linkedin.com/posts/luukasilves_launching-brave1-market-the-amazon-of-cutting-edge-activity-7322940947355324416-33YX/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&rcm=ACoAABJfvIUBLMnEUSA-EbpMEBKTnb3K9do__SQ) by [[Luukas Ilves]], which highlights Ukraine's use of a digital procurement platform to accelerate the acquisition of defense technologies during wartime. Structured as an online marketplace, the platform allows verified military personnel to browse, compare, and directly request or purchase a wide range of products such as drones, robotic systems, electronic warfare tools and battlefield software. The model reduces reliance on centralized acquisition channels and introduces a more modular procurement process. Marketplaces have been proposed in various contexts as a way to improve the efficiency of public procurement, but Ukraine's use of this model in the defense sector shows why it should be adopted more broadly. By breaking traditional monopsony structures and enabling frontline actors to access a competitive and diversified supply base, the platform supports faster integration of innovation into military operations. This is the kind of infrastructure that operational teams across government need, not only in defense and not only in Ukraine.
